Born Mar. 20, 1911, the daughter of Stephen and Elizabeth (Sometimes entered as “Isabella“) Blacksmith. Baptized, Easter Day Apr. 16, 1911 @ Santee. Ida also has a brother Charles Tackett entered in this same book, b. Apr. 3, 1912, p. 104

Stephen and Elizabeth (St. Clair) married at Santee on Aug. 17, 1884

On the 1902 Register of Santee Indians, Stephen and Elizabeth have a daughter Zally Ida (Ida Z.) who was born c. 1890. (These 2 pages fit together side-by-side). Here you will also find the parents of Stephen and Elizabeth.

This Zally dies in 1903, ref. Santee Mission, Book 1, p. 562

In the Santee Baptismal Register there are listings for Stephen, Isabella/ Elizabeth and many of their children. Here you will find Stephan and Elizabeth’s places of birth and years born-

Elizabeth died in 1920, Santee Mission Register, Book 2, p. 234
(Edward Blacksmith also appears in the 1902 Register and he has the same mother as Stephen but there are different father’s listed. Edward’s wife was named Elizabeth, so I do not know if this is the wife of Edward or Stephen.)
Stephen died in 1924, Book 2, p. 236

I find nothing for this family in the Iapi Oaye. Stephen appears on the 1885 and 1890 SW census. I can post those original pages if you need them. Your Ida wasn’t born yet, so does not appear.

I forgot to mention, when searching for Blacksmith, they often went by B. Smith. So sometimes they can be found in the S's and not the B's. As if the search isn't hard enough, eh?? :-)

Howard, can you tell me who Ida married? Do you have any family who may have lived on any SD reservation in the 30's? I can look for them in the SDERA surveys. :-)
